The Day we got #CurriedAway

When i think of curry, I always connect it to Indian Cuisine. Like our kusinera’s delectable chicken curry served at our dinner table at home, or the shrimp curry we always enjoy having at our favorite Indian resto which i mentioned in my Breakfast magazine feature. So I was surprised to find out, only during our trip to Osaka last year, that the Japanese had their own curry! I was surprised not only at the discovery but also of my ignorance, I had to ask myself, "Where have you been, Janice?"So in Osaka, Gary and i were enjoying our breakfast buffet at our hotel one morning when we noticed that curry was being served. As soon as he put the spoonful of rice and curry into his mouth, Gary's already big eyes got even bigger with delight! You can predict that the rest of our stay in Osaka, he was having that curry every single morning for breakfast because we thought we would never get to taste it again until our next trip to Japan. So when we heard about this restaurant in Manila that specializes in Japanese curry through my friend, Shen, I told Gary right away that we need to go.Eri Curry opened in mid-2014 at the Mega Fashion Hall in SM Megamall. Here we learned that the Japanese curry also still has its origins from India, but tweaked to suit Japanese taste, so it has a milder flavour and slightly thicker sauce.Eri Curry, not only teaches you the right way to eat curry , they actually allow you to customize your own curry dish in just four simple steps.Eri CurryStep 1: Choose Your Curry Plate: Choose from an array of curry combined with your favorite protein, seafood or veggies such as Thin Sliced Beef, Crunchy Squid, Shrimp and Mushroom curry plates.Step 2: Choose Your Rice Portion: Japanese rice portions come in200, 300 or 400 grams rice portions.Step 3: Choose Your Spice Level: Choose from Just Right (a mild almost no hint of spice flavour), Spicy (a sure kick of heat) or go all the way to Level 3, Fiery!Step 4: Add Toppings: Choose from toppings of more protein such as crispy chicken, squid, pork or vegetables like eggplant and asparagus and tomatoes.Eri CurryDecisions, decisions...:)and this is the dish I chose, with lots of extra toppings and I had the additional curry sauce put in a separate container so I can just easily add onEri CurrySince our first visit, we've been back several times since our two boys got "curried away" as well!Eri CurryHere are more photos from their menu:Eri CurryCreamed Mushroom Omelette CurryEri CurryKatsu CurryEri CurryFried Shrimp CurryEri CurryQuail Egg CurryGood options for vegetarians:Eri CurryAsparagus and Heirloom Tomatoes Omelette CurryEri CurryEri Curry Vegetable PlateEri CurryThey also have some kids' dishes like this Hamburger Kiddie Meal which makes eating more fun :)End with their Japanese desserts like this Rainbo Kakigori which is a shaved iced dessert with vanilla ice cream and azuki beans.Eri CurryWanna get #curriedaway too?
